Deion Sanders has been in the news a lot recently for issues related to his divorce from his wife Pilar. First, she reportedly physically assaulted him. Though he got temporary custody of their kids, that arrangement did not last long since she was later demanding that he pay that child support payments she was owed. Then he tried to sell his condo for far less than what it was worth, likely in an attempt to make enough money to pay child support. Now he is claiming the amount he was ordered to pay – $10,000 per month – is too much.
Of course, for the average person, this is a shocking amount to pay for child support. But Pilar and her lawyer argue that Deion is worth more than \$250 million, so he should be able to easily afford this amount. They have also pointed out that the judge must think Deion can afford to make these payments, since the court has his financial documents, so the amount must be fair.
Additionally, Pilar presented the court with documentation of why she needs $10,000 per month for the children. She claims she spends \$900 a month on uniforms, shoes, and supplies for school and any activities the children are involved in. She also asserts that she spends $2000 monthly on the kids’ special diet. Other expenses that require thousands of dollars include cell phone bills and haircuts, to name a few.
Not surprisingly, Deion has argued that Pilar and the children do not need to spend that much money. In fact, he claims he does not even make enough money to afford these child support payments. He has also pointed out that what the court has ordered is about six times more than the minimum requirement in Texas. So he has implied he is not asking for any special treatment, but just wants to pay the amount necessary to support the kids without going broke. Therefore, he is seeking to reduce the payments substantially.
