Same sex marriage supporters are rejoicing now that homosexual marriage is being recognized in a growing number of states throughout our country. And where there is marriage, there is sometimes divorce.
The Huffington Post published an article on a same sex couple from Minnesota who were looking forward to the day same sex marriage became legal in their state, but not so they could tie the knot. Rather, they were waiting to get divorced. Dawn Tuckner married her girlfriend in a ceremony in Canada in 2004, but has unfortunately been stuck in a marriage that she deemed a “mistake” ever since. While the couple did not live together or have any form of communication, the state of Minnesota could not allow them to divorce because their marriage was not recognized. Gay marriage became legal in Minnesota on August 1, 2013, and exactly one week later, Tuckner was able to file for divorce.
Hollywood stars that are in same sex unions are filing for divorce, as well. Most recently, Glee actress Jane Lynch announced that she was filing for divorce from her wife of three years, Lara Embry. The two meet in 2009, and tied the knot shortly thereafter in 2010 in Massachusetts.
Television actor and Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson recently appeared on SiriusXM to talk about his split from husband Monte Lapka. The two had been a couple for 13 years and married for two years. Jackson noted that he was feeling sad about the divorce, but continued to sing his ex-husband’s praises, saying he is “a wonderful man”.
