News outlets across the country are buzzing with the announcement that Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Brad Pitt. The shocking news has shaken Hollywood, as the high profile couple have spent the past couple of months denying rumors that they were headed for Splitsville.
Angelina Jolie Filing a Summons to Brad Pitt
According to a Page Six article, Jolie filed a Summons on Monday, September 19th, citing irreconcilable differences as her grounds for divorce. Sources close to the couple say that Jolie was not pleased with Pitt’s parenting style, and that the way in which he wanted to raise their six children was the tipping point in their relationship.
TMZ reports that Jolie is request sole physical custody of their children, while allowing Pitt to have visitation time with the kids. She is willing to share legal custody, and did not request spousal support from Pitt.
It is unknown at this time if Pitt has retained a divorce attorney. Jolie has hired LA-based lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her throughout the proceedings.
The pair made headlines in 2004 as their budding relationship was cited as the reason for Pitt’s divorce from actress Jennifer Aniston. The couple have six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, age 8.
Given the infancy of the divorce action, it is too soon to tell whether or not Jolie’s petition for sole physical custody will be granted. Regardless of how the case unfolds, one can only hope that the former couple will be able put their differences aside and have a child centered divorce.
